Job Description:

The Medicare Solutions Counselor will serve as a Medicare resource for the Advocate Aurora Health's site of care, its patients, clinicians and team members and surrounding service area senior residents. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with existing patients, as well as seniors in the community, resulting in growth and retention of the population within Advocate Aurora Health. The Counselor will be the face of Advocate Aurora Health, displaying a positive image to the senior community and their caregivers and will provide support services and education, including Medicare Insurance counseling. Medicare Solutions Counselor will be required to complete initial SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) training and become a Certified SHIP Counselor, as well as participate in ongoing training and CME renewals for ongoing certification in the Program.Complete State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) certification which includes state fingerprint background check. Once certified as a SHIP Counselor, the team member will support beneficiaries as they enroll in Medicare and Medicare insurance products and assist them with all programs related to Medicare -Conduct direct-to-patient outreach via in person and telephonic calls to soon to be Medicare-eligible patients to provide information about Medicare eligibility, enrollment process and options. Provide one-on-one appointments (virtual, telephonic or in-person) to those new to Medicare and existing Medicare beneficiaries, families, caregivers, AAH employees and the community to explain/educate/enroll in Medicare and Medicare insurance products and assist with all programs relating to Medicare. Counsel/explain to Medicare recipients or their representatives regarding medical bills.Conduct individual health insurance counseling sessions affording complete confidentiality to the client without conflict of interest. Gather information from appropriate sources needed to help consumers solve Medicare related issues. Interact with local, state, and federal agencies to research consumers' questions. Connect patients to health plans and/or broker resources, as applicable.Scheduled Hours Normal office hours M-F; occasional evenings and weekendsLicenses & CertificationsState Health Insurance Assistance Program Certification (SHIP) issued by the state in which the Team member practices. DegreesBachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration, orBachelor's Degree in Communications or related field. Required Functional ExperienceTypically requires 3 years of experience in a field of working with senior citizens.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to understand and organize complex information and communicate it clearly to a range of people with varying ranges of healthcare literacyAbility to show empathy yet use discretion with beneficiary informationSome knowledge of Medicare and Medicare insurance productsAbility to publicly speak and represent Advocate Aurora Health in the communityAbility to multi-task and have good time management skills.Must attend ongoing education programsContinuing Education is required to maintain SHIP certificationExperience with Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointSome knowledge of Epic MHR helpful, but not requiredSensitive knowledge and attitude in dealing with Senior Citizens, communicate with the hearing impaired and Alzheimer patients
