Job Description:

The 4-H Program Educator is an integral part of the UW-Madison Division of Extension and works alongside the people of Wisconsin to improve lives and communities. Extension serves the people and communities of Wisconsin by addressing local, statewide and national issues,improving lives through research-based education, fostering partnerships and action, and facilitating positive impacts.This position is a part of the Division of Extension PositiveYouth Development Institute, with a focus within the Wisconsin 4-H Extension Program. The Institute supports programs that contribute to the development of children, youth, and emerging adults who are healthy and productive, and who make a positive contribution to their communities.The 4-H Program Educator leads and manages the full range of the 4-H program including clubs, after school programs, educational experiences, and camps. Program educators also design, deliver, and evaluate research-based educational programming and services aligned with the position's programmatic focus.POSITION SUMMARYInitial programming focus will include:1. Recruiting, training, developing, and managing volunteers focused on helping youth develop life skills that promote ongoing community involvement and strengthen youth leadership development;2. Expanding 4-H membership and volunteer opportunities to underserved youth and adults;3. Coordinating the process for youth and adult volunteer enrollment including oversight of 4-H Clubs, 4-H Groups, 4-H Leaders Associations and committees;4. Strengthening the 4-H program by providing leadership for marketing, communications, member recruitment andmember retention;5. Cultivating collaborative efforts and partnerships with other organizations to expand 4-H programmingopportunities.The ideal candidate is adept at building and maintaining trust-based relationships, engaging stakeholders and applying an equity lens towards transforming lives and communities. As such, we strongly encourage applications from candidates who foster and promote the values of diversity and inclusion.DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATIONBachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred.MNIMUM YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCERequired:1. At least 2 years of relevant field and work experience such as educational programming with youth and families;
2. Experience recruiting, guiding and/or supervising volunteers and/or staff;
3. Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology;
4. Ability to effectively work with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity 5. Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills; 6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments; and 7. Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work.Preferred:1. Experience with volunteer management including recruitment and development;2. Demonstrated success in developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs for diverse audiences utilizing a variety of educational techniques, methods, and modes;3. Demonstrated experience with board/committee leadership or development;4. Demonstrated skill in interpreting, utilizing, and applying evidence-based information and research findings;5. Demonstrated experience developing effective partnerships or coalitions with community partners and local governments;6. Experience with project management including ability to apply relevant policies and procedures;7. Bilingual, especially with fluency in both English and Spanish; and8. Experience working in urban neighborhoods and communities with diverse cultural backgrounds including Latinx and African Americans.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThis position will be hired at 60% time with the possibility of increasing to 100% time contingent on funding.1. The primary accountability relationship for this position is the Area Extension Director (Area 22) for supervision, compensation and benefits and performance reviews2. This positions primary programming focus is in Kenosha County; however, some programming will also be conducted over a broader geographical area.3. Initial assigned location for this position will be in Bristol, Wisconsin. Office location and programming coverage is contingent on county funding support and location may be reassigned to align with county and Extension programming priorities.4. Expectation to make arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions;5. Work evenings or weekends as needed to meet programming needs6.
