Duties and Responsibilities
This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research (ADR) and will engage the school, faculty, and doctoral students in strategic research advancement, communication of research and research opportunities, enhancement of collaboration/team science, and proposal support functions to impact research and scholarship. Responsibilities include guiding and mentoring faculty and doctoral students in developing and submitting proposals to funding opportunities, promoting growth in external funding, and fostering collaborations that support social justice initiatives.


  • Engage with faculty and doctoral students to develop and monitor work plans for securing funding during each academic year based on individual research agendas.
  • Oversee the pre-award process, including developing faculty skills in funding opportunity identification and working closely with the Office of Research Services (ORS), Sponsored Program Accounting (SPA), and Advancement - Corporate/Foundations Development Relations (CFDR).
  • Create and review proposal narratives, budgets, justifications, letters of support, MOUs, and associated appendices for compliance with university and sponsor requirements in collaboration with the ADR and Business Manager.
  • Review and generate contracts, awards, and sub-contracts, including recommending appropriate language and terms under supervision.
  • Collaborate with the Dean, ADR, and Business Manager as the school's internal grants administrator.
  • Provide ongoing consultation on policies and issues regarding research advancement and sponsored project administration.
  • Be proficient in, and provide consultation on, the use of electronic systems supporting grants and contracts.
  • Serve as liaison between SSW and LUC, collaborating with relevant offices and counterparts across the university.
  • Coordinate efforts with the advancement office and ORS for corporate and foundation relations.
  • Develop policies and procedures in consultation with leadership.
  • Maintain records of grants activities and prepare reports, including leading the annual LUC / SSW IMPACT Review.
  • Guide faculty and doctoral students in preparing applications for fellowships such as Fulbright.
  • Mentor doctoral students in grants and scholarship applications.
  • Co-supervise graduate and research assistants as needed.
  • Provide leadership and strategic planning for sponsored projects activities.
  • Promote a culture of integrity, service, and excellence.
  • Encourage growth in external funding from various agencies.

    Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
    Master's degree in social or health sciences with 3 years of documented success in advancement or sponsored programs in higher education. Administrative experience working with faculty in fundraising and grantsmanship is required.
    Qualifications
    Education and Experience:

    • Master's or doctoral degree in social or health sciences.
    • 3-5 years of successful experience in higher education related to advancement or sponsored programs.

      Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Knowledge of funding agencies and protocols at various government levels.
      • Experience in grants identification and cultivation.
      • Knowledge of grants/contracts administration and compliance in higher education.
      • Strong proposal development and grants management skills.
      • Understanding of federal regulations related to human subjects.
      • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and cooperative skills.
      • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and capable of working independently.

        Additional Information
        No certificates, licenses, or licenses required. Proficient in MS Office. No supervisory responsibilities. No operation of university vehicles required. No physical demands or working conditions specified.
        Salary Range
        Minimum: $75,000/year; Maximum: $82,928/year.
