Position Title: Communications Manager

Employment Type: Full time, Academic Staff, Salaried

Reports To: The Communications Manager will report to the Chief Communications Officer (Executive Director of University Relations).

Pay Range: $47,000 - $55,000

The Communications Manager will develop and supervise the execution of communication programs and may supervise personnel and other resources supporting institutional or unit communication goals.


Essential Job Functions

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Manages the day-to-day operational unit plans to align with strategic initiatives and to meet established objectives
  • Plans, writes, and edits content for various internal and external stakeholders
  • Plans and directs unit programs and/or projects to ensure adherence to deadlines and budgets
  • Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
  • Develops, implements, and delivers communication materials through various mediums to designated audiences Key Skills

    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to successfully interact with faculty, staff, students and media, and other external stakeholders/decision-makers
    • Ability to demonstrate good organizational skills, pay attention to detail, regarding deadlines, and tracking tasks
    • Willingness to accept and welcome change in a fast-paced office environment.
    • Completes tasks and goals in a timely fashion
    • Knowledge of social media platforms, including (but not limited to): Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
    • Cultivates knowledge of various rules, policies, and procedures that impact the organization and operation of the university
    • Ability to perform duties with minimum supervision, exercise motivation, and initiative in decision-making, exhibit creativity and self-direction with a capacity for independent work, managing multiple projects, and working as part of a team
    • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information and records
    • Commitment to the highest ethical standards
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and shared networks (e.g., OneDrive)
    • Proficiency in virtual learning technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams, WebEx, Zoom, etc.)
    • Although not required, the successful candidate for this position will possess familiarity with higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, and/or state and local government agencies.

      Qualifications
      • Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Marketing, Journalism, or related field.
      • At least 2 years of relevant experience in marketing, public relations, and/or communications practices.
      • Although not required, the successful candidate for this position will possess familiarity with higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, and/or state and local government agencies. University of Wisconsin - Parkside
