The Stella Hotel & Ballroom is located in Kenosha, WI and is within blocks of Lake Michigan and has 80 stunning guest rooms, featuring state of the art amenities combining sophistication and contemporary design elements. Housed within the hotel, the 1844 Table & Mash restaurant/bar pays homage to supper clubs of the past, but with a fresh and modern twist. The hotel also features a seasonal rooftop bar called The Crow's Nest. The Stella Hotel and Ballroom has 7000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a grand two-story ballroom. OVERALL DESCRIPTION OF JOB SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the General Manager, the Sales Manager is responsible for total hotel room sales, banquet and meeting room revenue and accountable to a market performance and meeting budget, forecast, and optimal business mix targets. Strategies to include market mix, pricing, status, and direct sales. The development and solicitation of business from all markets with a major emphasis towards corporate sales to ensure the necessary advance bookings needed for a successful and profitable operation for the hotel. RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the General Manager, retains relationships with peers and all other departments within the company, maintains relationships with current and prospective residents, and maintains relationships with suppliers, vendors, and others serving the Company or the property. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Please note that the essential job functions listed here are not all-inclusive, rather they indicate the types of activities normally performed by this position and, therefore, may be modified and revised. Other duties may be required and assigned from time-to-time. Works closely with the General Manager and Operations Manager to maximize revenue and total occupancy. Responsible for hotel room sales, banquet and meeting room revenue and accountable to a market performance and meeting budget, forecast, and optimal business mix targets. Strategies to include market mix, pricing, status, and direct sales. The development and solicitation of business from all markets to ensure the necessary advance bookings needed for a successful and profitable operation for the hotel. Has a major emphasis on corporate sales including local accounts, national accounts and consortia's including daily business, group business and meetings for corporate clients. Actively participates in meetings with corporate and leisure clients, provides site tours and builds rapport. Negotiates corporate discounted rates based on volume, availability and other pre-determined factors. Initiates solicitation efforts of the sales function through effective oral and written communication while overseeing rate, date and space commitments for group room sales within the hotel. Quotes group rates, prepares group contracts and delegates front desk staff / groups coordinator to enter block into RDP. Quotes extended stay reservations and communicates reservation details to front desk and management team. Compiles and/or directs the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales function to include, but not limited to the annual and monthly forecast, lead and productivity, function calendars, group booking pace report, STAR reports and sales meeting minutes when applicable. Follows-up with appropriate staff to ensure meetings and events go as planned. Ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for development of new marketing strategies. Makes reasonable recommendations to improve potential from various markets. Develops and conducts persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients. Adheres to computerized annual business plan and executes plans as outlined, critically examining and adjusting as deemed necessary by current market conditions. Assists in updating website, purchase, distribute and monitor promotional materials and other sales collateral. Organizes and/or attends scheduled department head, sales, event and/or all staff and related meetings. Knowledge of travel industry, current market trends and economic factors. Directs and manages all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel. Prepares, implements and compiles data for the strategic sales plan, monthly reports, annual goals, sales budget, forecasts and other reports as directed/required. Develops rates, group sales and catering deployment strategies through review of competitive data, demand analysis and mix management. Professionally represents the hotel in community and industry organizations and events. Other duties assigned by Manager. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent education and experience, required. Sales experience in a hotel of similar level preferred. May work weekends, some nights and holidays. Positive, team focused, guest service centered leadership attitude.
