How You'll Make a Difference:

  • Assists with the provision of patient centered care in an outpatient clinic. Performs various clinical support tasks under clinical supervision within the organization's established scope of practice guidelines to ensure efficient patient flow. Exhibits competency and is proficient in advanced skills as outlined in the MA Scope of Practice.
  • Performs all the functions of a Medical Assistant I such as preparing and rooming the patient, performing laboratory procedures, assisting the physician/advance practice provider (APP) with procedures and surgeries, and administering routine medications, under physician/APP orders.
  • Trained and competent as a preceptor for annual competency, new caregiver orientation, or MA students.
  • Provides general patient instructions on the performance of routine tasks or skills. Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, pre-approved care algorithms, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services. Refers questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to patient as directed.
  • Communicates with physicians and other members of the health care team to ensure smooth clinic flow and makes adjustments as necessary. Effectively communicates accurate and timely information with the patient.
  • Performs basic and advanced clinical support tasks or skills based on the specialty and appropriate advanced skills and competencies such as but not limited to removal of sutures and staples, straight catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen), phlebotomy - butterfly, venous heel stick, EKG, spirometry, holter monitor application, etc., under clinical supervision.
  • Identifies, designs, and assists in implementing process changes to improve the department, quality and safety of the patient experience.
  • Serves as a resource person, role model and source of expertise for other caregivers regarding complex issues. Participates in development and implementation of training programs/materials.

    What it Will Take:

    Licenses & Certifications

    • Medical Assistant (CMA) certification issued by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or
    • Medical Assistant (RMA) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or
    • Medical Assistant (NCMA) certification issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), and
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.


      • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant.

        Required Functional Experience

        • Typically requires 2 years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.

          Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

          • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
          • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff and physicians.
          • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems.
          • Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.

            Scheduled Hours:

            Monday - Friday position hours may vary based on needs of dept.

            Monday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

            Tuesday and Wednesday 9:30 am - 6:00 pm

            Thursday and Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

            No weekends or holiday's no call required.
